The King’s Royal Hussars deployed as an infantry battalion in support of the Royal Ulster Constabulary.Â

Operation BANNER lasted from 1969 to 2007. The Royal Hussars (PWO) and the 14th/20th King’s Hussars had previously completed several tours in the Province of Northern Ireland prior to amalgamation.

The regiment took over the Girdwood tactical area of responsibility in North Belfast.  The tour saw the regiment operating on both sides of the sectarian divide, including the Shankhill Road, a loyalist stronghold, and the Ardoyne and New Lodge republican estates.  A republican ceasefire came into effect in August 1994.  B Squadron were redeployed to the Maze Prison as the Prison Guard Force.
