Historical Research - Museum Archives
Please Note: Due to an ongoing shortage of volunteers it is currently difficult to offer access to the archive. We are still able to conduct the research for you and welcome enquiries!
Our regimental archives cover:-
- 10th Royal Hussars (PWO)
- 11th Hussars (PAO)
- 14th King’s Hussars
- 20th Hussars
- The 14th/20th King’s Hussars
- The Royal Hussars
We hold a wide variety of papers, journals, photographs, and books for each of the founding regiments of The King’s Royal Hussars. This is inclusive of some personal effects, but we cannot guarantee we hold records for every serving soldier throughout our regimental history.
We do not hold Records of Service for individuals , these can be found at:-
- Pre 1920 – National Archive, Kew, Surrey, TW9 4DU.
- Post 1920 – Army Personnel Centre, Historic Disclosures, Mailpoint 400, Kentigern House, 65 Brown Street, Glasgow, G2 8EX.
The Ogilby Muster
Several of the Museum’s World War One archives have been digitised and were previously hosted on The Ogilby Muster (TOM). These have now been transferred back to HorsePower Museum, and we now host the digital archive that was previously available on TOM.
Archival Research
Whilst we do not presently offer visits to the archive, museum staff can carry out research requests on your behalf. An initial check for information is free, but anything more substantial (e.g. transcribing documents, sending digital copies, etc.) will incur a £30 fee.
Before paying for a research request please be aware that we do not have a dedicated member of staff who deals research enquiries. These are completed as and when the curator and assistants have the time.
Should you wish to continue with your research request, payment for enquiries can be made here. Please email your donation reference number alongside your enquiry.
