In 1962, the 14th/20th Hussars converted to armoured cars and returned to Libya after an absence of seven years. The regiment was stationed in Benghazi, with B Squadron in Tripoli. This time they were not as isolated as they had been in Sabratha. In Benghazi, C Squadron became an air-portable squadron, ready to load its Ferret Scout cars onto RAF Beverley aircraft to attend to any emergency.
At 5am on Boxing Day 1963, the call came for C Squadron to deploy on operations to Cyprus. It says much for the discipline of the soldiers that the previous night spent in Christmas cheer did not prevent them rapidly loading themselves and their vehicles into planes and flying to Akrotiri in Cyprus.
