They rebuilt their tanks and took on more crewmen.
On 22nd November 1990, the Commanding Officer, attending the Corps Commander’s Conference, was warned that 4th Armoured Brigade, of which the 14th/20th Hussars were the armoured regiment, would go to the Gulf before Christmas.
Although the 14th/20th now had A, B and D Squadrons with them in Münster, they were still missing a tank squadron, as C Squadron, under Major Peter Garbutt, was based in Berlin, in Chieftain tanks, as part of Berlin Brigade. They were also missing the troop they had sent to SCOTS DG, and Captain Todd, the Regimental Signals Officer. They needed to pull themselves up to their war establishment in manpower, replace and rebuild the tanks, and undergo pre-deployment training, which would include transporting the tanks to Hohne, some 150 miles (240 kms).
Replacement crewmen arrived as volunteers from other armoured regiments, including two officers from the 6th Gurkha Rifles. C Squadron was recovered from Berlin. On 2nd December, C Squadron of The Life Guards came under command of the 14th/20th Hussars and provided a strong increment to their manpower.
