The regiment was based in Al Amarah and North Basra.
Operation TELIC was the codename under which all the UK’s military operations in Iraq were conducted between the start of the Invasion of Iraq on 19th March 2003 and the withdrawal of the last remaining British forces on 22nd May 2011. The regiment was based in Al Amarah and North Basra on Operation TELIC 6 from June to December 2005, as part of Multi National Division South East. They were equipped with Challenger 2 Main Battle Tanks. Lance Corporal Brackenbury was killed in action on 29th May 2005 by an improvised explosive device. The regimental battle group was involved in the rescue of two British Special Forces soldiers held hostage at the Al Jameat police station, during which Corporal Baird drove his tank through the prison wall to allow the rescue troops into the building.
