The British Army pursued the French out of Spain and into France.
After some hard fighting in the Pyrenees, in November 1813 the 14th Light Dragoons were near Bayonne. They remained there in winter quarters until mid February 1814, when Wellington resumed pushing the French north towards Orthes. Foul weather and exhausted, starved horses prevented the cavalry from doing more than picketing and reconnaissance for this battle, which was largely won by the infantry. The French army fell back on Toulouse, from which they withdrew on 11th April 1814. On 12th April, the 14th were in the leading brigade escorting Wellington into the city, ending the Peninsula War. The regiment embarked for England at Bayonne. Total casualties of the 14th Light Dragoons in the Peninsular War had been 654 men and 1,564 horses.
