The 14th Light Dragoons were designated The King’s Regiment of Light Dragoons by order of King William IV.
Following a successful inspection by King William IV, The King ordered that the 14th Light Dragoons’ designation be changed from The Duchess of York’s Own Regiment of Light Dragoons to The King’s Regiment of Light Dragoons. It is from this gift that the regiment, through several changes, became The King’s Royal Hussars in 1992. The second Badge of the Royal Cypher within the Garter dates from this time. This cypher was used as the 14th Hussar’s capbadge during the First World War, when Great Britain was fighting the Kaiser, whose family badge was the Prussian Eagle.
