By order of King George V, the 14th Hussars took off their hawk cap badges.
In May 1915 King George V expressed a wish that the Prussian Eagle – the family crest of the Kaiser – be removed “for the present”, as Britain was at war with Germany. For the duration of the First World War the regiment wore the Royal Crest within the Garter as its cap badge.
