In 1783, the 10th Dragoons were retitled the 10th, or Prince of Wales’s Own, Light Dragoons. The 11th Dragoons were retitled the 11th Light Dragoons.
The Prince of Wales’ plume and motto “Ich Dien” (meaning “I serve” in German) became the regimental badge of the 10th. The Prince of Wales took a close interest in the regiment and was given the honorary title of Colonel Commandant in 1793.
