Prince Albert requested that the Regiment should be retitled and adopt the crimson trousers of his family livery.
The 11th Light Dragoons escorted Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha from Dover to Canterbury before his marriage to Queen Victoria. Prince Albert was appointed Colonel of the Regiment, and requested that the 11th should be retitled the 11th, Prince Albert’s Own, Hussars, and wear his crimson livery trousers. In 1921 they were retitled the 11th Hussars (Prince Albert’s Own).
