In 1945 the 14th/20th Hussars joined the war in Europe.
At the end of 1944, the 14th/20th Hussars were at last to get their chance to join the war in Europe. They received orders to take part in the Italian campaign, landing at Taranto, in eastern Italy, on 21st January 1945. A Squadron was re-equipped with sufficient Kangaroo Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to carry a battalion of infantry and the 14th/20th were sent to join the 43rd Gurkha Lorried Brigade, with whom they had worked in Iraq.
