Troop Sergeant Major John Stratford, who was the last survivor of the Battle of Ramnuggur in 1848, died aged 102.
On 16th January 1932, Troop Sergeant Major John Stratford, 14th Light Dragoons, the last survivor of the Battle of Ramnuggur in 1834, died aged 102. He was a veteran of the Second Sikh War, Persia and the Indian Mutiny. The 14th/20th’s deployment in Egypt prevented the Regiment from attending his funeral. He was given a military funeral in Wolverhampton, when The Staffordshire Yeomanry provided a bearer party.
