The 14th Light Dragoons adopt the Prussian Eagle as their badge.

On 29 September 1791 Prince Frederick, The Duke of York, second son of George III and Commander-in-Chief of the Army, married Princess Frederica of Prussia.

The 14th Light Dragoons were given the task of greeting the Princess on her arrival in England at Harwich as Duchess of York, and escorting her to London. In 1798 the Princess became the Royal Patroness of the 14th and the regiment adopted the Prussian Eagle as its capbadge. It was given the title of 14th (or Duchess of York’s Own) Light Dragoons.
