The 14th Light Dragoons made a fruitless expedition to Persia.
In January 1857, the 14th Light Dragoons formed part of a force sent to Persia (now Iran) to take back the the island of Kharak and the city and district of Bushire. The Persians put up no fight, and the regiment sailed back to India, landing in Bombay on 15th May 1857, where they learned the news that mutiny had broken out within the Indian Army regiments.
