HRH Princess Anne was appointed as Colonel-in-Chief of the 14th/20th Hussars.
Having been without a royal patron since the death of King William IV in 1837, the regiment sounded out the possibility of a Colonel-in-Chief being appointed. HM The Queen appointed HRH Princess Anne to be Colonel-in-Chief 14th/20th King’s Hussars from July 1st 1969. The news was given to the regiment while they were on exercise in Libya and was broadcast by radio to the troops. In October 1969, Princess Anne visited the regiment for the first time.
