The Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales’s Own) was formed in 1969 by an amalgamation of the 10th and 11th Hussars.
The amalgamation of the 10th Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales’s Own) and the 11th Hussars (Prince Albert’s Own) took place on Balaclava Day, 25th October 1969, at Tidworth. The parade was attended by HRH Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, Colonel in Chief, and Major General Sir David Dawnay, Colonel of the Regiment. Following the amalgamation, The Royal Hussars (PWO) served in Cyprus, Hong Kong, Belize, Germany, Canada and Northern Ireland. In early 1990, following 2 years at Tidworth, D Squadron was detached to Cyprus whilst the remainder of the regiment moved to Münster, Germany where it stayed until amalgamation in 1992.
